Day 18: Favorite book written by an African American: Native Son written by Richard Wright in 1940. This is one of my favorite books to read. I was required to read this book in one of my high school English classes (I think!) I would recommend this book to anyone.
Day 17: Invention by an African American: The Super Soaker watergun by Lonnie G. Johnson
Day 12: Influential Black Actor: Danny Glover. Besides being a great actor, Danny Glower is widely known for his activism. While he was attending San Francisco State, he helped organize a 5-month student walkout (the longest in history) to help establish a Department of Black Studies, it was also the first School of Ethnic Studies in the US
Day 9: Black Female Athlete: Alice Coachman. She was the 1st black woman to win and Olympic gold metal (1948-track and field). She jumped 5ft 6.25in, setting an Olympic record. She signed a deal with Coca-Cola a couple of years later, thus making her the first black female athlete with an endorsement deal.
Day 6 #bhmchallenge, influential black couple. One of the best R&B songwriting teams ever, with hits such as “Ain’t no Mountain High Enough”, “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing” and “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)”
